Synaptics Touchpad Not Working [Studio 1558]

I have been using a Dell Studio 1558, without any issues so far. However, for the last 2 days, my Dell touch-pad has not been working. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. I have taken the drivers from the driver disks that came with my laptop as well as the drivers from the dell website. I have also tried using system restore to roll back to a time much before the problem had started to appear. This has not resolved the problem as the touch-pad is still not working. On checking in the Device Manager, the device is not normally visible. when all hidden devices are seen, the Dell Touch-pad icon appears with a yellow exclamation mark. The error code shown is "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)" I have tried to update the driver from the device properties, but i get a message that the latest driver is already installed. I am unable to diagnose the problem. Please help.

I had the same exact issue. I re installed the driver and I still had the same problem for the Dell Studio 1558.

Solution: Its a hardware issue. I ordered a mouse pad cable and mouse pad buttons and replaced them myself. I bought the parts off of ebay for about $15. I then went to youtube and followed step by step instructions to replace the touch pad and buttons...type" dell studio 1558 touch pad replacement" and the video will show in the results. It took about an hr to do. I hope this helps.

Hi Maver1k,

Welcome to the Community. If your are under warranty contact Dell Technical Support for help on reseating the touchpad cable.

Steps to reseat your touchpad cable. I do not recommed this if your under warranty.

After reseating the touchpad cable, try reinstalling the toucpad drivers off the Dell Support Site.

Hope this helps.

Thank you
