Dell has just released the following article regarding the 0x80070103 error after installing the Windows Update Synaptics driver on the XPS 13 9343. Dell is working with Microsoft to have this Windows update removed for the 9343.

Windows update fails with 0x80070103.

Some XPS 9343 users have reported that s update fails with a error 0x80070103 after upgrading to Windows 10.

This is related to a Microsoft Windows update errantly pushing an unsupported Synaptics Touchpad driver to the XPS 9343.

Solution.

Dell Engineering has confirmed the XPS 9343 does not use this Synaptics touchpad driver being pushed through the Windows Update process. The touchpad driver is native to the XPS 9343 in Windows 10.

Dell is working with Microsoft to have this update association removed from the XPS 9343 Windows Update to eliminate this error.

De-selecting and/or blocking the Synaptics driver update for Dell Touchpad using this tool: >>>>> How to temporarily prevent a Windows or driver update from reinstalling in Windows 10 <<<<< is a temporary solution for this error until Microsoft resolves the update association in Windows update.

And here I was hoping that there actually was a new driver that fixed the scroll lag in all none-modern application...

This issue is affecting not just XPS 13 9343 model but also the 9333 model. Since "Dell is working with Microsoft to have this update association removed", can Dell communicate it to Microsoft please.

I confirm this.
Even the 9333 is affected.

Incidently, how does the Windows 10 update system, with Microsoft pushing driver updates to Win10 computers, square with Dell's own "Dell update" (which I have running on my laptop). Does it make Dell update redundant and it should be uninstalled? Is there a potential for conflicting updates coming from two sources?

Same problem here. I reinstalled the Windows 8.1 drivers from the Dell Support Site. Update still fails.

Also I'm not able to open the Dell Touchpad settings. Everytime I try this, nothing happens.

I solved that problem. I ran "DellToucahpad35.exe" in "C:\Windows.old\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP" and I accessed the Dell Touchpad settings. I wanted to invert the scroll feature on touchpad and I did it.

The problem with Synaptics Driver on Windows Update was solved by Dell today. At least in my Inspiron 5547.

DELL-TERRY B...  I am assuming these same instructions hold true for all the Dell platforms experiencing this issue.  I have the Venue Pro 11 7139 and you will see other platforms noted in this post.  Would you please confirm that the Dell announcement is not specific to the XPS 9343 which is specifically called out?

I need to unsubscribe from this thread.  It seems it started with one issue (the windows update problem), the windows update problem has a work-around (hide from update, as earlier posted by someone), and now everyone's writing about things like touchpads not working, or a scroll delay which is a separate issue and belongs in its own thread.

I noticed that as of yesterday the driver is no longer offered in my Windows update. This is on my Dell Inspiron 14 5447.

Yep, just ran wushowhide and the Synaptics driver is no longer on offer for Dell XPS 13 9333. Does anyone know where Dell Update sits in all this? With Windows 10 force-feeding drivers, has Dell Update become redundant?

hello I have same problem with my dell latotude e6410 , before microsoft said your device is ready form windows 10 upgrade  but after upgrading the touchpad wasnt working and is not the drivers in the device area is been removed from the BIOS settings , if you go to your BIOS settings look for  touchpad and if you try to reset it will not work and if you try to use it will not work is something worst than simple reloading of driver at the device settings need to go to dell and check wich devices are tested for windows 10.

Same issue, same laptop.

I can use the touchpad for basic functions, but the gestures do not work in all applications.

I tried updating through Windows Update several days in a row, each one failing. Now it does not even show up as an update when I check for updates (Win 10 Pro).
