I got my Studio 1747 as my replacement system today and everything seems fine with it except, the led screen is 1600 x 900 and my E1705 was 1920 x 1200. I called Dell on this and they said The Studio does not come with anything higher, I told them to send me a refurbished e1705, xps, m17x whatever they have to do. This screen is low quality (in my opinion) compared to the one on my problematic e1705. Dell said they will get back to me in 24-48 hour time, I think they are flying in from India, not sure.
old system specs- e1705 17" 1920 x 1200, 500 gb hd 4gb ram(3.25 usable) Nvidia geforce 7800 256mb, dvd dual layer, core 2 duo 2.0ghz
new system specs studio 1747 1600 x 900 250 gb 2gb ram Ati integrated 1 gb dvd dual layer intel i7 1.6 ghz.
I know the system seems better with the i7 and larger video card memory( takes more system memory too) but honestly seems slower (perhaps due to all the Dell junk software included) Anyway I just thought I would rant about this cause I think they should send me a comparable model all around...I can't go below 1920 x 1200 no way. Especially after designing with it.
You can see if they'll send you a Latitude E-series, which is the only one left with a resolution of that specification. That aspect ratio screen has almost completely disappeared from consumer-grade notebooks these days.
