Teenage tantrum Inspiron 6400

In an effort to stop her brother using her laptop my daughter slammed her laptop shut with the result the screen isn't coming on. Fortunately no damage to the workings of the laptop as I can get things working with an external monitor. Is there likely to be anything simple she's damaged in this process that I can fix?

I've seen a couple of messages saying about inverters(?) and alignment of ribbons(?) but no idea where to start with this one. Now out of warranty, should I try unscrewing the back of the laptop to see if anything visibly wrong?

They're good kids really, just too close in age. I blame the parents.

It's worth checking the connections, but it's also possible (even probable) that the backlight bulb has been broken.  It's not a major repair - cost should run in the $100-150 range to have it replaced;  you'll need an LCD specialist.
