Thermal grease?

Hi,

Is there any special thermal grease I should use to reseat the HSF on the CPU?

(7-year old laptop, and I'm ruling out any power issues possibly affected by poorly cooled CPU.)  Thanks.

I use Arctic Silver but there are other brands.

I use it because it has always worked and never failed me.  Once I find a solution like this, which can have devastating results, I do not like to change.

I purchased a tube of Arctic Silver 7 or so years ago.  I just used it again on my son's computer.  I applied it on the processor and video chip.  It is still as good now as when I purchased the tube.  By the way, his system is running cooler now than before.

Of course, people have their loyalty.  Some like Chevys.  Some like Fords.  Some Dodge.  You may get a very wide range of opinions here.

Thanks Bay Wolf.  Why is arctic silver a good choice for you?   I live in a desert, dry climate, and I wonder if that makes a difference with the life time quality of thermal grease.
