I recently bought the plugable thunderbolt 3 to dual hdmi adapter.
Is there a way to use 3 external monitors + laptop screen?
FYI: Question was also asked at the plugable forum: support.plugable.com/.../thunderbolt-3-dual-hdmi-adapter-on-fedora-25
That link is about the TB16. It also states that the maximum number of monitors through the thunderbolt connector is 2. Correct. That is the same for the plugable adapter. However, what about the HDMI output on the laptop. Why does it become unavailable when connecting 2 monitors through the thunderbolt adapter.
In researching this I've found that the fedora operating system is not supported by Dell, therefore we have limited information regarding how this OS works with our products. You may find more assistance here: http://dell.to/2k4f3aw or here: http://dell.to/2k44Ef1
Hope this helps.
So is information available on this from a hardware perspective? I think the questiono doesn't have to do anything with what OS is installed. According to plugable, they think that using the usb-c and hdmi port at the same time to connect 3 screens isn't possible from a hardware perspective with this laptop.
That would mean that if I would install Ubuntu, and wait for the firmware updates to become available (they aren't available for linux according to this link: http://dell.to/2k44Ef1), it still wouldn't work. Is that the case?
And the same should be applicable on Windows OS, meaning that using both output ports at the same time for attaching 3 screens also doesn't work. Is that the case?
It would appear from the link you posted, that one of the software architects is responding on the Forum in regards to this issue. You could send a private message to him asking for his assistance. http://dell.to/2iJj5J7
