Touchpad problems with Inspiron 6400/Vista

I'm wondering if someone can help me with a continuing problem I've been having with my Inspiron 6400 (with, sadly, Vista). Every few weeks or months, the scrolling function on my touchpad suddenly stops working. I've done the update drivers thing, but the problem just keeps coming back. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated! Thanks!!!
