USB drives not wroking

i am using dell inspiron n5040 usb drives are not working in my laptop

Hi Bala08yuvaraj,

Thank you for writing on Dell Community.

I would suggest you to click on the link http://dell.to/1jQ1Bjn and update the BIOS from BIOS Section and Chipset from Chipset Section by selecting the version of Operating System.

Once updated please restart the system and check, If the issue still persists follow the below steps to Run the Dell Diagnostics on USB ports on the system.

1. Open the link http://dell.to/11MXNII
2. Select ‘Hardware’ under ‘Dell PC Diagnostics’.
3. Select ‘USB’ under ‘Diagnostic Selector.
4. Click on ‘Run Diagnostics’ button.
5. Let me know the results.

Still USB drive not working after updating bios and chipset drivers.

Check the error msg attached

Hi Bala08yuvaraj,

I would suggest you to boot the system in Safe Mode with Networking and check for the USB Issue.

Follow the steps below to boot the system into Safe Mode with Networking :

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. As the computer boots, press <F8> when the Dell Splash Screen appears.
  3. Scroll down to option ‘Safe mode with networking’ and Click on ‘Enter’ button.
  4. This will boot you into the safe mode with networking and check.

When i tried to install chipset driver (R302527) its giving error.

I would suggest you to provide us with the error message that you get.

Also want you to check and confirm if the same USB device (flash drive) is working good on a different system.
