Updates for Vostro 3550: i5 2430 to i7 options & can I add a dedicated AMD graphics card to supplant onboard Intel 3000?

Hello all!

I was just wondering about upgrade options for my Vostro 3550.  It has the i5 2430QM chipset (with Integrated Intel 3000).  What I would like to do is upgrade both the processor (to an i7) and install an AMD 6630 dedicated graphics chip to supplement the Intel 3000.  Is that possible and what are the best options?

I'm doing an SSD upgrade as well, so if I can do everything at once, it will make life easier.  LOL.

TIA,

B.

You'd have to replace both the CPU and the mainboard - which will cost you at least $500 in total, so you'd be better off selling the system and buying a new one.

Would I be able to change the GPU like in this video without changing the mother board (if I don't use a dedicated AMD graphics card)?

I've also read that the 2640M or i-840 would be a direct plug in...

You can change the CPU, yes.  You CANNOT change to a discrete GPU other than by replacing the mainboard.  WIthin a generation of Intel CPUs (Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge) the on-chip GPU (separate issue from a discrete one) is the same.

Would it be possible to change the 3000 to 4000?

TIA
