Upgrade dell xps 15 2011 hard drive to ssd

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of upgrading the hard drive on my dell xps 15 laptop. Its been running great but I thought to bump up the performance by replacing the hard disk. I am hoping to do a fresh install of the OS and all software on the SSD. How can I download all the software that comes packaged with the dell laptop like the windows OS, microsoft office?

Much appreciate your assistance.

You will need to make a set of recovery media -- note though that you will need to make sure the new drive is at least the same size as or larger than the hard drive you replace, or the recovery media won't work.

Use the Dell Backup and Recovery utility on the hard drive.

The other way to do this is to clone the existing drive-- though note that the recovery partition won't function once cloned.

Hello,

Thanks for your response. Could you explain how the 'recovery media' works or point me to any resource on it. I definitely know that the size of the new hard drive is smaller than the drive I plan to replace. What would be the steps I need to do beyond creating the recovery media?

I do have any external hard disk that I use to backup all my personal files.
