Upgrade to Win7 64-bit?

I have an E1505 and the opportunity to install WIN7 64-bit.  I am very hesitant, given the negative talk I've been hearing/seeing.  I have some important software that is old and I do not have the financial resources to replace them.  What would you all recommend?

Re: Upgrade to Win7 64-bit?

Unless you're certain everything will run under Windows 7, be wary.  At that, because the system RAM max is officially 2 G (though some report 4 working), the 64-bit version makes little sense -- the 32-bit version will be overall a better performer on this model.

Even with 4G fully supported, bear in mind the footprint of the 64-bit version is larger - what you gain over 3.25 Gbytes, you will lose because the OS uses more RAM.

First, sorry that this post got into the Audio portion of the forum.  My mistake.

I am surprised by how difficult it is to find definitive information on what seems to be a common question.

Thank you for your thoughts!
