Upgrades for new 7559
I'd like to add 8GB ram and a M.2 SSD. I've checked some other forums, but the recommended hardware is sketchy at best, Could someone give me some thoughts on selecting this hardware, please.

I purchased the 7559 from Dell w/ the 1TB hybrid drive and the empty M.2 slot. I quickly decided to fill the M.2 w/ a Samsung 500GB SSD. The M.2 accepts a Sata3, not PCIe format. This seems to be a very good drive & very simple to install.

Hi
I have just got my 7559 and would like to fit a 128GB ssd m.2.
I would like to clone the HDD to the SSD and boot from that for a faster boot.
Is it a matter of just cloning or do I need to change the BIOS to get the boot to happen from the SSD? If so is there a step by step guide anywhere please?

The SSD I bought was a Samsung EVO 850 500GB. It included some software & instructons, that I've since thrown out. Originally I'd planned to use an Easus or some other package, but the Samsung method was very simple. Almost, I thought, too simple. But it did the job far easier than what I was expecting.
You might try checking with Samsung for more details. Sorry I didn't save it, I usually save everything.

Just added new memory and hard drives to my Inspiron 15 7559.
Used Crucial Memory - (2 times) 8GB - 1866 MHz Dimms (#CT102464BF186D). Cost was about $75. The actual Dram frequency clocks at the full 1866 MHz versus the Dell stated max of 1600 MHz.
Purchased a 500 GB M.2 Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Installed this new M.2 SSD in the computer. Went to Windows Disk Management to initialize, partition and format the new drive. Used Windows to create a disk image from the old hard to the new M.2 SSD. Shut down the computer and removed the old hard drive. Booted to BIOS, changed the boot drive to the new M.2 SSD, exited BIOS, and the computer started to the new M.2 SSD. (Not sure, but I think I had to go back and repartition this new drive again.)
I also purchased a 2TB Samsung 2.5" 850 EVO SSD. Installed this in the computer in place of the old hard drive. Went to Windows Disk Management to initialize, partition and format this new drive. This is now used for my movies, music, pictures, & documents.
I then put the old hard drive in an Apricorn enclosure, attached it via USB 3.0, re-formatted it to wipe clean and am now using it as an external drive.

I bought a Samsung EVO 500 GB for the M.2 slot, shortly after receiving my i5 7559. Installtion was simple & now, after a 1 1/2 years I've never had an issue with it.

Hi SgtMike,
Dell Inspiron 15 7559 system has 2 SODIMM slots. The system accepts a memory capacity ranging from 4 GB, 6 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, and 16 GB. The memory type accepted is 1600 MHz DDR3L SODIMM only. The computer supports a maximum of 16GB of memory when installed with two 8GB DIMMs.
Dell has tested this system with only M.2 2280 128GB SSD.

I had the same dream.
The motherboard chipset spec notes PCIe support.
Dell Chat said yes to the Samsung 950 Pro MZ-V5P512BW 512GB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 3.0X4 SSD.
NCIX said no. We tried. No BIOS support.
www.gaminglaptopsjunky.com/.../ ;notes SATA 3 only for the M.2 slot.
I'm out some time and money thanks to Dell Chat ID No. 72243438

Hi Ravi...
Thank you for the clarification...
but can you please tell me which M.2 will the 7559 support
PCIe or Sata 3 for installing and running windows from it.
Also will it support 240/250GB M.2 SSD

Hi sgtmike,
I had a chat with Dell UK and asked the same query but they told me that M.2 PCIe SSD cards are also supported on 7559 and would work for installing and running windows thru it.
but like you and few others on many other Inspiron 7559 forums are reporting that only M.2 Sata 3 SSD work, not PCIe.
So i am confused....
We all know what PCIe cards are capable of and so i was curious if it would work on my system...
Also I observed that the M.2 port on the 7559 motherboard is an M key type..which according to my web research supports PCIe, but i might be wrong.....
And i dont want to buy an SSD card and later find that it wont work...its around £100 for 256gig model here in UK.

ABHAYK722,
I've read the same forums & Dell rep information, but all I know is the Sata3 works well for me. The most convincing info I came across was from knowledgeable users that tried and failed with a PCi & had to go with the Sata3. Dell may possibly be using different boards just to further confuse us.

I can verify that although the mobo is supposed to be capable of Pcie M2, somehow Dell has crippled it. The Samsung 950 Pro Nvme M2 does NOT work with this computer build.
The drive will not show or be recognized no matter what you do. I had to return the one I bought. I have an 850 evo M2 on the way, we'll see what happens....

I reported the same problem with my Dell Canada 7559 because Dell Chat said yes to PCIe support.
My 7559 was in the shop for the PCIe install and for about the same price as the 512GB Samsung Pro 950 M.2 PCIe SSD I had a the HDD replaced with a 1TB Samsung 850 SSD because that was what was what the tech suggested and that was what was available. Plus I had already paid for the PCIe and the shop installation time.
I like your fix better.
The problem is my new 7559 with a SATA SSD is abut the same speed as my 3 year old Dell M6700 with a SATA SSD.
I would have returned the 7559 if I had known about this PCIe problem before I started the upgrades.

The Samsung 850 EVO M.2 should slip right in & present you no problems. There seems to have been much confusion over PCIe or SATA3 for this slot.. After much reading I went with the SATA3 M.2 back in October, after following several forums.
