Hi Dimitris,

You are welcome!

You may use any upgraded Intel Processor that match the characteristics of the Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor. To view the characteristics in detail, click on this link http://dell.to/18WndX8 .

Hope this helps.

Hi Dimitris,

You have the highest processor available attached to your computer for the Inspiron N5110. Neither have we tested any higher processor than core i7 2670Qm CPU@2.20GHz on this computer nor do we recommend using one. But if you would like to upgrade the processor you may go ahead and do it. If your computer is under warranty then your warranty will not go void. But, if any hardware problem arises in the computer due to the processor upgrade then repairing the computer will not be covered under warranty.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dimitris,

You are welcome!

Yes ofcourse, you can go ahead and downgrade the processor too. No problem in doing that. Just make sure the Bus Speed, Socket type and the Lithography are the ones that your computer supports.

If you have any other queries or if you need any help, please feel free to reply here and I will be more than happy to help you out!

Hi Dimitris,

The link that I gave you earlier in the previous post, you can refer to that link and find similar models with the same kind of Socket Type, Bus Speed and the Lithography. If these 3 of the of the components match then you can take that particular processor. Also be advised the power the processor would draw, so check that too in the link I had provided you in the previous post.

Hope this helps.

Hello

I know, this topic is old by now, but as I am not able to find concrete answers to my problem/idea, this is the closest.

I have Dell Inspiron R15 N5110

Conf can be found:

www.dell.com/.../configuration

Basically have Upgraded the system as much as I could by now - 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM, HDD to SSD, Win Vista to Win 7. Bu my demandings for the sys has grown too.

I now need to know what kind of i5 and i7 series processors can I run with this configuration.

I know there are sets with all of those 2nd generation processors (i3, i5, and i7) but some say all of 2nd gen processors (with Sandy Bridhe technology) can be used. Some say there is no way this mohterboard can run with i7 what so ever.

I have cunsulted so called specialists on Dell plarforms (they provide spare parts fo Dell) and they also could not be sure if i7 can be run.

Dell official website data somewhat gives me hope, also N5110 platform is shipped with that CPU.

So please can someone give me solid answer if I can invest on i7 or I have to settle wiht i5.

The second question/topic is, that is my system board able to carry more than 2x4GB RAM sticks? Win 7 supports up to 32G but can my motherboard handle that or accept that? And is 1333 the last i can use in my system?

P. S. my personal favourite among availables is i7-2760QM

The i7 2670QM did ship in that model -- that said, be sure you have a 130W power adapter (or higher).  You won't run an i7 on a 90W adapter.

Hey again

Now as I have got Your attention. Which is very cheering :). Thanks!

I ask once again, can be sure that my machine will work well no matter which kind of Sandy Bridge generation processor I install for replacement in my system, Is that so??

In parenthesis, I have additional GeForce 525M on my board.

And I will refer to my second question, will my system work with additionally upgrades RAM from 2 x 4GB sticks with 2 x 8GB (or even higher)?? That said, as I mentioned earlier, there are cases where 16BG have worked (by the owners words)??

BR,

K.

Thank You very much for the reply. As You already might have noticed, I wrote You personal message too.

A I mentioned, my preference is i7-2760QM which is approx. 10% more powerful but costs only a bit more.

And have I understood now clearly, that all Inspiron R15 N5110 were shipped with the same motherboard and there is no significant difference weather there is i5- or i7- inserted on that??!

Thanx a lot in advance!

There are different boards depending on whether you have integrated or discrete video and on which discrete chip you have, but they all have the same CPU support.

That said, the only real difference between those two CPUs is a benchmark -- in real-world applications a 10% CPU difference might translate to 2-3% overall -- unnoticeable in just about any application.

Unless there's some other over-riding factor such as a marginal mainboard (voltage regulators DO sometimes lose tolerance with age, and this is a fairly old system in computer terms), the CPU should work.

The RAM is hit or miss - if you have found a post with someone mentioning a specific module that worked, you can try that.  There are just no guarantees -- the system is guaranteed to work with up to 8 G total RAM;  no one will guarantee more.
