Upgrading Inspiron 1545 Graphics Card

Can the video card of my Inspiron 1545, which was purchased with the discrete graphics option, be upgraded? (Intel PM 45 Chipset)
Thanks.

Thank you both.

For anyone else wondering about this, for laptops, "discrete graphics" means that the graphics card will be more powerful than a non-discrete (or "integrated") option and run independently from the rest of the computer. However, even the discrete video card will be soldered onto the board and thus be impractical for removal. I just came across that explanation. Thanks again.

Hi Anasastu,

Welcome to Dell community!

Inspiron 1545 system was offered with two video configurations:

  • Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator
  • Discrete ATI Radeon 4330 graphics card

Dell has not tested this system with any other graphics card.

Only by replacing the entire mainboard, and then only to the ATI 4000 series

You'll also need a new heatsink assembly and if you have a 65W power adapter, you'll need a 90W replacement.
