Upgrading Inspiron 1545 from Win 7 to Win 10

Jump to solution

Hello,

Am thinking of upgrading my Inspiron 1545 laptop to Windows 10. I successfully did an N5010 upgrade last week and only lost the bluetooth (to an unsupported driver).

Anyone know of any compatibility issues with the 1545? I see it hasn't yet been tested, but would like to move to it.

Thanks. Jim

I can confirm that Windows 10 works fine with no driver issues on the Inspiron 1545; I'm currently using it to write this message. I upgraded from windows 7 without hassle. I've only been using it a day so perhaps some issues may turn up, but for now all seems to be grand!

Hope that helps!

Hi Jim,

This model has not been tested by Dell for W10 compatibility - see this link - http://dell.to/1N2hHIt - hence Dell would not release any W10 drivers for this system model. Now, we could wait and see if Dell would release any W10 drivers. It may or may not be possible. However, a safe bet is that Dell would not release the drivers for an outdated model.

You could try reinstalling the bluetooth / wireless drivers - http://dell.to/1MypgYb - from this link - download and install the drivers in compatibility mode for W7 - http://bit.ly/1Tixfax - see this link on how to. This might resolve the issue, however we cannot assure that W10 would be stable on your system.

I would suggest you to downgrade the OS to W7 for full system functionality - see this link on how to - http://bit.ly/1MeFV1d

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Rishi,

Thanks for your reply. I tried reinstalling the driver (on the N5010 laptop) using compatibility mode and it still mentions that it's not compatible. Knowing that I cannot get my bluetooth back (without downgrading back to Windows 7, which I don't want to do, because I like 10 so much) I think I'll have to live without it. Please contact me if you know of a workaround for getting bluetooth to work on a Inspiron N5010 with Windows 10. (I may get an external adapter if I can find one.)

Thanks again.

Jim

The Dell Wireless 365 is a Broadcom Card. Try the Broadcom Bluetooth Update (Widcomm Bluetooth Windows Software):

Philip, The tool seems to hang while seeking out the adapter. (See attached). I checked in the BIOS and the bluetooth is "enabled" but I'm not sure if that means it's turned "ON". I tried FN>F2 to see if that might turn it on, but it didn't seem to make the tool seek anything. Any ideas on how to turn the BT on (without an interface and other than FN>F2?

Thanks,

Jim

Does any Bluetooth device show up in the device manager?

No. I looked under Networking and there was just the wireless card and the LAN port. I may have to just get an external usb bluetooth adapter.

Hi Jim,

At this point, an external BT adapter might be the alternate solution. I would suggest you to keep an eye on the forums for any possible alternate solution (if any other users would post a confirmed resolution for this).

If I manage to review any such threads, I shall keep you posted.
