I presently have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 840 @1.87GHz 1.87 GHz. I also have 12 GB ram. As I recall all the slots are filled, making up the 12 GB ram. Can I exchange that in this model to use the slots for a higher amount, & if so how much will that improve the overall computer's performance. I'm assuming this is something if possible that wouldn't be extremely difficult to do myself. Finally what is the recommended ram?
Thanks, in advance for any input.
You can go up to 32G (you must now have 2X2 and 2X4) by installing four 8 G soDIMMs -- that said, you're not likely to see a major boost in doing so unless you're using extremely RAM- intensive applications such as large spreadsheets or databases.
If the system is running a conventional hard drive, replacing that with a solid state drive will produce far more of a boost.
