Upgrading my dell vostro 1720

Hello,

I am trying to get a little more oomph out of my laptop. i would like to know what i could do that is low expense and would still increase the performance of my computer. 

I have a Dell vostro 1720

Windows XP

Intel(R) Core 2 Duo CPU

T9550 @ 2.66GHz

2.66GHz, 2.99 GB of RAM

if there is anything i may be leaving out just tell me and i will add it.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the Community. On a laptop you do not have much upgrade options. However I checked your system details, and I see that the Vostro 1720 can support a max of 8GB RAM ( DDR2 800 MHz SODIMMs ) so you can add 2 sticks of 4 GB each. This will speed up your computer. You can also upgrade your hard drive to a 500 GB ( SATA Solid State hard drive ) which will allow you to store more files on your computer.

But note that if you're running XP, it's almost certainly a 32-bit OS (there was a 64-bit version but it was neither popular nor widely supported with drivers), so going beyond 4G of RAM is pointless.
