Vostro 3360 Cooling

Not sure if this is a fault or designed into BIOS this way...

I have two Vostro 3360's i5 and i7 chips

The i7 version's fan fires up when it need cooling down and them stops when cool...all good

The i5 version's fan constantly cycles between around 2300 rpm and 3700 rpm with approx 0.5 sec intervals. slow/fast/slow/fast etc creating a constant up and down noise. The fan never cycles off like the i7.

Wondering if this is fault with the temp controller or the BIOS for the i5 chip has been programmed this way?

Hi,

Welcome to the Community. Its most probably the Bios. I suggest you to use the below link to update your Bios. AC Adapter and Battery needs to be connected to the system when updating the Bios.

Thanks for reply, Royan.  I forgot to mention both laptops are running A04 bios.  I have reflashed the i5 with A04 to see if made a difference but it didn't.  Thanks.

I have the same problem with my 3360

I also had problems with USB ports failing, replaced the USB controller but problem still there, the temp controller is apparently embedded with the CPU. Just organising with my Dell contact to replace the unit. Will let you know if replacement is OK.  Cheers.

Replacement 3360 / i5 does not have the same issue, so assume it was some fault with the temp / fan controller.

I'm also having this issue and have the latest A12 BIOS as well.
