Hi Brian

Thanks for being active on this issue. (This thread was closed - so had to use the TB-15 Thunderbolt thread above this one). Thanks for opening this one for WD-15

I've been having  most of the problems mentioned in the other Thunderbolt dock  thread .. USB problems, fan noise, not recognising on startup,

I tried the driver list above (for 5510 win7 64) and some refused to install because they were for xps product not  precision. However I when on 5520 support page (for the nth time) and found a new USB driver. ie > Chipset_Driver_V2WY5_WN32_1.16.32.1_A01.EXE

I've installed that but NOPE ... still has USB problems eg stuff like usb (2) keyboard not working. BUT unplug/replug the dock at USB C connection at laptop and it works !! (but this is a PITA and probably will wreck the socket in the long run).

I guess my point is please sync the support page and this support forum if you can, we all love Dell but would appreciate some reciprocating :-)

Same for me. USB3 ports constantly connect then disconnect in a loop. I'm very dissapointed in Dell for not having fixed the issues. It almost feeels like it couldn't have been tested before launch.

Please Dell, fix these issues, but also don't make us go through a horrible sequence of installing drivers, that is a terrible terrible experience.

I went through the process of downloading and installing each of these drivers but still having problems.

The big thing is that it will sometimes work, but othertimes it will just randomly start losing connection to the USB devices, the network port, etc.  In particular it seems to just completely lose connection for my external Western Digital desktop USB 3 hard drive (which has its own power supply).  And when I try to plug it back in, oftentimes my external keyboard and mouse will both stop working.

Unfortunately I'm going to return the WD15, because I'm almost up on the 30 day return window and I don't want to end up with something I can never use properly.

I really wish this worked well though, because I do love the idea of a single connection from the USB-C port compared to plugging and unplugging a bunch of things in.

I've done exactly the same, and have exactly the same results !!

I updated all available new drivers etc.  except USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller and Hub Driver, 15.2.30.250, A00. I  Also contracted support who, couldn't install this driver either and are sending another dock in case its hardware (or by way of appeasement ? - i've been wasting hours of productive time ...grrrrr).

I am keeping my dock because its the only way I can get laptop to power my external monitor (via display-port - which thankfully works fine).

It appears that dell have NOT yet got to the root problems with these docks yet ;-(

So, I've made a little more progress.

I decided to try one more time to go through all of the steps above - most everything had already been installed and was the correct version number (and the thunderbolt firmware update confirmed it was current).

One thing I didn't mention before is that I am also trying to use an Anker 10-port USB 3 hub.  So I basically had the USB 3 hub plugged into one of the USB 3 ports on the back, and I had my hard drive, mouse and keyboard plugged into the hub.

I decided to try again, but without having the hub plugged in at all - instead I plugged my mouse and keyboard into the two USB 2 ports, and I plugged my audio interface/speakers into the USB 3 port in the back (not worrying about anything else).

With this setup, things seemed to be mostly stable.

Next, I plugged in the USB 3 hub into the USB 3 port on the left side of the XPS 15 9550. And I plugged in the western digital desktop usb 3 hard drive and a samsung blu-ray usb drive into the hub.  This actually seemed to work, and it doesn't seem to lose the connection of the USB 3 hard drive.

Similarly, I'm not seeing the network connection or keyboard and mouse stop working.

I do find it annoying that I can't seem to get this reliability with the USB 3 hub plugged into the USB 3 port on the back of the WD15 though, but as of right now, if it means that my solution requires me plugging in two connectors - the WD15 through USB-C, and my USB 3 hub through one of the USB 3 ports on the XPS, that's still not too bad.

So, I may regret it, but for now I've decided to keep the WD15.  Especially looking at the cost just to buy another XPS 15 9550 power adapter to have at my desk (which I was thinking of as an alternative, and just plugged in my monitor and USB hub direct), I feel incentivized to get as smooth a solution as possible with the WD15.

Same issues after upgrading the drivers with WD15 on XPS9550. fan noises.  Returning the dock.

i'm having the same problems using the wd15 w/ xps 13 - the usb ports on the dock work for a while but then stop working.  i'm past the 30 days return point which is really frustrating....someone at dell really needs to solve the drivers for these docks.

to dell's credit - they seem to be trying.  the new drivers they released today helped w/ stability but after about 1/2 hr - the usb devices still have a problem with windows 10 + stop working (i'm using a mouse and keyboard).  hopefully they can release a set of consistent drivers that work on top of whatever is already installed.  or - there are clear instructions on what to remove and then what to reinstall from scratch.  thanks!

OK - so, things had been working well for me for a bit, but this morning I hooked my Dell XPS 15 9550 to the WD15, and it's like all the old problems returned.  My USB mouse and keyboard suddenly stop working (although not completely, the lights on them still come on occasionally, so they're still connected, but they're flashing on and off constantly and aren't usable).

The wired Ethernet connection goes in and out (and I hear windows making the sound for when a device is connected or disconnected).

This is really frustrating because I thought I had come to some equilibrium by plugging my USB 3.0 hub into one of the XPS 15 9550's USB 3 ports instead of a USB 3 port on the WD15 itself.

But now it's like everything is flakey again.

I don't know  what else to do, and also I kept it so it's past  it's 30 day return date.

I've still got all the USB problems as listed above. :emotion-42:

And I have a replacement Dock on back order (they are out of stock) > I am keeping my 1/2 working dock as its OK for Mini-display port out and Cat5 wired ethernet connections. Bought a separate USB 3.0 hub (which should not have been necessary !!)

I have all the newest drivers (that work) installed
BUT Following driver, from Intel, DOES not install (seems to need some command line stuff).

I even wonder if Dell has tested it ??? ....

Driver:  Intel(R) Thunderbolt Controller Driver

Version 15.3.39.250, A01 march 11th/12th

I'm experiencing the same issues you guys are describing above. Today my wired network connection is just gone-its not even shown on the device manager.

Also, it does seem like for awhile everything works fine, but then one day the monitors are flaky.

I'm going to leave everything unplugged and powered down tonight and see how things go in the morning.

Have either of you made any progress in the last week?

UPDATE: I have the TB15 dock, but that is experiencing the same issues you are describing above.

We are using MS WDS/MDT to image Latitude 7275 with WD15 connected.

We are manually updating the BIOS.

For Step 2 - 6 are these drivers part of the E8 Tablet Family driver pack on the Enterprise CAB site?

Having similar issues to those others have described.

I took delivery of new WD15 yesterday, and it worked all day out of the box without problems on my XPS15 9550

Then today, every 30 minutues or so I get erratic mouse/keyboard behavior, followed by a blue screen
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (wdf01000.sys) or (USBXHCI.SYS).

I checked through the above list and it seems I already have these updates.
I tried installing them again, and it came up asking me if I wanted to repair (as it already had the version installed)

As it was the mouse/keyboard that seemed to be the first sign of the problem I have moved that back to one of the USB ports on the laptop.  I will see how long it lasts with this

Update: It was definitely the mouse/keyboard dongle. Since moving that out of the dock I have had no issues. I then remembered I had the same issue with this dongle when I tried to use it previously in the USB hub in my monitor

3 months or so down the line. WD15 is still just a very expensive charger lacking most of the dock functionality.

Customer Support in India have been trying to help (bless them), but they seem to be limited to uninstall/reinstall drivers in different orders, which is clearly not the issue.

Dell.....Please start taking this issue seriously with both the TB15 and WD15! We need much more communication here? Is the problem hardware or drivers? When is a fix going to be issued?

WD15 Ethernet works perfectly if I disable wifi on my XPS13.   Using all the current drivers installed in the correct order.

Also, email chip card reader works when I first plug it in to the WD15 but stops soon thereafter.  If I plug the card reader into the XPS - no problem.

Is anyone able to use the WD15 with Ethernet without having to disable Wi-Fi?  My conflicts with each other ceaselessly.

After ordering my first WD15 (before returning it) Dell wanted to replace my MB thinking it had a defect causing the Ethernet to conflict with Wi-Fi.  Glad I did not change my MB for a used one.   At any rate, I can't imagine the aggregate amount of time and money Dell's spent on all these problematic WD15 and TB15s.
