As I recall the ASMedia is only for TB15.   Not for WD15 which is why it won't work for you.

Yeah, it seems that that update is for the TB15.

Instead, did you try the "Intel Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Update" version 2.12.07, A03? I can't understand why they say that it's supported on "9250/9350/9550" but it's not listed as a 9550 update.

Yes, I tested it. The problems still remain.

I still have to use my trick.

I installed the new Thunderbolt controller driver that appeared on the 9350 drivers page today.  It successfully installed.  Then I tried to install the new Thunderbolt FW update . . . but got a message that I need to update my BIOS.  However, I have the latest BIOS 1.3.3.   I assume a new BIOS is soon to be released that supports the TB FW that was made available today.

The new bios update for the 9550 was released today (Version 01.02.10).

I could successfully update my notebook. The update took more time than the older ones (3 - 4 minutes).

There are many fixes:

Fixes & Enhancements

1.Fixed Dell Thunderbolt Dock (TB15) device will lost after S3 resume
2.Fixed LCD flickering when in lowest brightness
3.Fixed After McAfee encrypted, the PCIE NVMe SSD \ SATA SSD can't boot to OS issue
4.Fixed Wake on WLAN takes a long time with Intel 1830/1820A Wireless card
5.Fixed USB audio/mouse may be lag while connected to Dell Thunderbolt Dock (TB15) and Dell Dock (WD15)
6.Support for Windows 10 Enterprise features
7.Fixed incorrect Thunderbolt security level reading from Driver
8.Fixed Touchpad may be lost after Dell Thunderbolt Dock (TB15) device connected
9. Add passthrough MAC address shows on BIOS Setup feature.
10.Fixed System will become shut-down with connected to Dell Thunderbolt Dock (TB15) after S4 Resume.
I tried to install the firmware update for Thunderbold which you can find in the download section of the 9350. It seems that this update is already in the bios update because I got the message that it is "up to date".
I will test this new firmware the next days.
Best regards

Hi

Does anyone know if there is any way that this dock can damage your machine. My computer running on high fan/very hot. This happens even after i no longer use dock. This started when i did clean install and installed all dock drivers in the order that tech support advice.

I did not initially have any trouble with the dock and my XPS 9350, but yesterday I had many of the same symptoms others describe: usb connections dropping constantly and intermittent network connectivity. I do not know if this was related to the recent BIOS update. I switched to a DA200 dongle, and still had the same problems, so it's not necessarily a problem with the dock itself. I finally fixed it by simply turning off wifi. I did not have to do this in the past, but yesterday the XPS kept switching between wifi and gigE and this affected the USB ports. I also tested with only wifi and no wired connection, and that initially seemed more stable but the USB ports would still lose connectivity (mouse, keyboard, and external drives). So if anyone has a wired internet connection, try turning off wifi.

I returned mine... its not worth the trouble... the dock randomly goes from stable to unstable. It seems this maybe a hardware issue? I wasted days trying to make this work, shame on Dell for such bad product.

Using WD15 and a XPS15 9550 since mid-march 2016 (I'm a retired IT pro just to make things clear)

After much confusion coming from the Dell Support www pages, Dell support installed the latest drivers and firmware related with the WD15 as described in the WD15 pages.

It worked OK during a couple of days until ... Dell Update app automatically replaced two drivers ! all problems reappeared: loss of Ethernet connection, USB device not seen, XPS crash at shutdown, if not (that happens sometimes !) after shutdown XPS connected with WD15 restart automatically !

Updated BIOS to 1.2.10 solved a number of these problems

But now lost in the several Thunderbolt drivers reported on the Drivers download pages for the XPS as well as the WD15 which is not consistent with the XPS page !! Very confusing and no way to understand which to install

Please can you make the Dell Support Pages a lot more clearer and non ambiguous

Dell Support seems to be a mess and XPS15 9500 is a sleek but buggy system !!

by the way, and just in case  you ever use Acronis True Image (ATI2016) to reload a disk image using a recovery key, make sure

- to use a WinPE recovery key with Acronis ATI plug-in, standard key doesn't boot.

- change BIOS SATA mode to AHCI before booting the key, else SSD isn't seen, recovery works OK. Reason behing that is that RAID mode implies some memory limitation which are incompatible with the recovery key.

- restore BIOS SATA mode to RAID (dell default) before rebboting the recovered machine, Works OK.

Took me 3 days full time to find out the above so I could reload a backup !!

I'm using the Latitiude 7275 with the WD15 USB-C docking station.

Everything appears to be working fairly well, but I have an issue when imaging the device with SCCM. I'm not sure if anyone else out there uses SCCM, but here is a brief example of what happens. For background, I am using Windows 10 x64 1511 Enterprise.

1. Starts in WinPE after PXE booting attached to the WD15 dock. No issues

2. Image job starts and gets to point where SCCM starts the Windows setup

3. Windows setup runs and then the SCCM client takes over from the OS to continue running.

During steps 2 and 3 the screen flickers for a moment. The attached USB mouse/keyboard stop working for a second or two and then come back. Networking also disappears and does NOT come back. This results in the imaging job failing. However, if I unplug the USB cable and plug it back in, the networking comes back instantly.

I've been going back and forth with Dell on this issue but thought I'd post on this thread as well to see if anyone else was having this issue. If so, any workarounds you've been able to come up with?

On another note . . . the driver's page now shows a new release as of 29 July: Intel(R) Thunderbolt(TM) 3 Firmware Update; File Name: Intel_TBT3_FW_UPDATE_NVM16_A04_2.16.01.003.exe, Release Date: 29 July 2016.  It appears to be the exact same file name and file size as the one released earlier in the month.

No matter how I install it - or the earlier one - it goes a little and then says "Firmware is up to date."  Can't really tell if it really got updated (Dell Update keeps telling me my firmware needs to be updated so the Dell Update is not recognizing my machine as having the update being complete.).

I've seen several similar posts wondering about the TB firmware update . . . the mystery continues.

Daer Joseph,

was it posted by mistake? Sorry if I am dumb but I cannot see a relationship with the topic....

Update of my problems; after updating also the video driver Video_Driver_FK4F6_WN32_20.19.15.4454_A06.EXE (that was not done automatically) the blackout problem disappeared.

The random flicker of the built-in display is still there but this is not related to WD-15.

Joseph looks like a scammer bot. That link has nothing to do with real Dell customer service and they will likely just install virus if you call them then try to charge you to remove it. Do not use them!

Thanks for reply about Joseph... as I said I am not too much smart... :emotion-1:

IMPORTANT UPDATE to my previous post!!!!!

I just SOLVED all the problems by using a mini Displayport cable instead of HDMI.

That seems rather hard to understand: if the problem is in the cable (I tested a lot of even very good HDMI ones), I cannot understand why it works @2560x1440 but not if the external monitor (at the same resolution) is used as an extension.

Anyway WD15 is operating perfectly now and EVERYTHING IS OK for me.
