WEBCAM support in Windows 10

Has anyone any new ideas about Webcam driver for W10 ?

I find it completely unacceptable for Dell to simply state they will NOT support Webcam for Windows 10 in their XPS L702 laptops.  Then just shutdown the discussion as 'completed'.

My 702 is 4 years old. It was sold to me as 'built for the future' A high end laptop.
I've been running W10 on this laptopn for almost a year with ZERO problems.  ALL the Adobe Video editing upgrades work. ALL MSoft works, ALL Corel s/ware works. ALL works well  EXCEPT the Webcam.
All for the lack of a driver. The machine does not even SEE the webcam. I cannot find any option and Dell have just washed their hands of this fault.
And lets be clear.  IT IS A FAULT.

To simply put the below statement on your support page for a 4 year old laptop is appalling.

"Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected."

But you dont give a toss about your customers. I've met your support teams. I've met the IT people that you outsource elements of your support.  I've seen the issiues they have because of your lack of investment in support.... We know how much you do not care

Such a shame that good companies go this way. Rip off their customers.

RE: WEBCAM support in Windows 10

Its not necessarily Dell that can't or won't support the webcam but the company that actually made the webcam and/or Microsoft.  There should be a generic driver for it, but if Windows 10 isn't seeing it then the webcam was made proprietary enough that the generic driver will not work which is why Dell put that on the support page for your computer.

Oh come on !!!

That's like saying that when the Engine or Headlight fails on my Car, its not the Car manufacturer responsible but the component supplier and I have to goto them for replacement.

How far back do you want to go.  What about the lens provider to the Webcam manufacturer ?

Sorry but that is an absolute customer care cop out from Dell.

Dell could at least state why.. which they havent.

Could recommend an alternative ?

Could advise on upgrade options ?

and of course could hold their component manufacturer to account , IF it is their doing.

Either way, I bought a Dell laptop from Dell and expect them to support it better than they have.

Oh.. and the statement from Dell that said...
"Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected."

Refers to the complete Laptop , not just the webcam.  The whole machine.
So caring.

There are some issues with webcams and the latest RS1 build.

Right click the start button and select device manager. Do you have an imaging device catagory? Is the camera listed? Are there any devices marked with warnings?

Thanks for reply but...

No "imaging devices".  The device is not seen/recognised in Device Mgr.  It doesn't exist as far as Windows is concerned.  Search yields nothing. No 'unknown devices' either.

This has been explored fully via other threads.

Driver is the issue.  There isnt one.  Hence my questions...  Maybe someone has found something.

I believer (but not sure) that its  a Quanta HD.264  Webcam in the laptop.

But all searches just point to the W10 problems and not alternatives or fixes.

If its not shown in the device manager than as far as the computer is concerned the webcam isn't there... It isn't a driver issue it is a hardware issue.

This is quite a common issue as its near the hinge. Essentially the cable from the camera has probably shook loose from the motherboard.

Try to reseat the cable I circled. Look at the service manual here:
