WiFi Loss

I just recently purchased an Inspiron 5547 laptop and the one consistent problem i have is that it keeps dropping my WiFi connection while other computers and laptops are still connected during this loss. Has anyone experienced this before. I disconnect the profile and then reconnect and it works fine for at least ten minutes then it drops it again.

cOOLISHMO,

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

Rick, I have a similar problem in that when I have poor to average reception, my new 5547 doesn't work in rooms where my old Inspiron does, so I'm trying your suggestions. Before I found this post though I had already downloaded Intel Dual Band Wireless - AC 3160 driver from Dell's website. During installation it asked in a popup window "Intel Proset/Wireless Software V 17.0.0 with 2 options: Repair or Uninstall" I just x'ed out the window not knowing what to do. The message from the driver installation said it was successful. What do you think I should do about that now? Can I call Dell support with driver installation questions?

I made the changes you suggested.  I still have a problem in that I don't get consistent internet service when I have 3 or less bars from my Xfinity cable wireless service.  When I run the Signal Strength Test from the checkup on the network card listed on My Dell, it is between 40 and 60% fluctuating as I sit in the room which is furthest from the modem.  My 5+ yrs old Inspiron is slow but it works in that room.  There are a few other places that this new one works only sporadically so I have to either get it resolved by tomorrow or send it back to Dell.  It didn't occur to me to test it sooner.  If you have any other ideas, please let me know.

P.Fields,

You can check the antenna wires by reading page 24 in the Manuals & documentation for your Inspiron 15 5547

I would suggest if the system is under warranty, to contact Dell Tech Support.

I contacted Dell support, who was very good I might add, and after downloading the most recent driver from Intel's website and checking a number of settings on my laptop, he decided to dispatch service to replace my network card and possibly the antenna.   It is actually worse now because frequently I have no internet service and a message says my network adapter is having a problem.  Instead of service, I decided to return the laptop and order another one seeing as it is new.

Thanks for the suggestions.

P.Fields,

Sorry I could not be of more help. Glad there is a solution for you.

Take care,

Dell support checked other options on my laptop as well as downloading the latest driver from Intel's website.  However another post here in community suggested changing HT mode to disabled which worked for me, allowing me to use wireless further away from the router.  However after the laptop went to sleep, I got error code 43 from Windows 7.  Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

If you know why please reply, because I need to return this laptop today if I'm not keeping it.
