Window re-activation?

Hi Folks;

I have a Studio1558, running Windows 7, 64bit. I want to install an additional 2gig to my already 6gig of memory. So, I ordered a 4gig stick of memory from Dell to replace the 2gig stick to give me total of 8gig of memory.

But, I have been reading that sometimes Windows will shut-down when there is a major hardware change. Would this be the case with mine? Will Windows shut down if I upgrade my memory from 6gig to 8gig? If so, what do I need to do to get Windows back on?

Thanks for your time.

Hi dwdraw2,

You can replace the memory on the system which would not cause any issue with the operating system.

Yes. If there is any major hardware failure, the laptop (or any computer) will turn off instantly, without the process of shutdown. Hence the next time the message as in the below image is displayed:

As for the RAM upgrade, Dell Studio 1558 supports a maximum memory of 8 GB. Hence it will work flawlessly, if a compatible RAM stick is used.
