XPS 13 Screen Problem

I have a Dell XPS 13 purchased in January last year. Seemingly without reason my screen has stopped going to sleep when the laptop is closed. This is obviously a major concern for me, especially considering the laptop is not very old at all. Is there anything I can do on the software side of things (i.e. change settings) or is this most likely a hardware problem.

Many thanks

Hi,

Just to diagnose this further, do you when was the last time it was able to go in sleep when the lid was closed? Also, have you been able to check the setting in the Power Options to see if something changed there? You would need to check what it is set to when the lid is closed.

What is the Operating System that is currently running on the system? Does the system go into sleep or hibernate when you initiate this action from the START menu?

Thanks.

The last time it went to sleep automatically on closing the screen was thursday or Friday last week. I have started having a number of various issues since I installed the Windows 8.1 update. I can send the computer to sleep manually by pushing the power button. I have checked the settings menus extensively but can't seem to find an option which allows me to choose whether or not to send the computer to sleep when I close the screen.

Hi,

Thank you for the details. Please test this - Control Panel - Power Option - Choose one of the power settings, go "advanced" and check under "Power Buttons and Lid" and make sure "Lid Closing Action" is set to "Sleep" or "Hibernate" - then you should be able to close the lid, and see if the lid closing action works accordingly.

This issue seems to have solved itself. The close lid setting has always been set to sleep but for some reason it stopped working, its fine now though. Many thanks for your help.
