XPS 13 screen flickers when waking up after Windows 10 upgrade
Whenever i turn on the laptop, or wake the screen up when it goes dark, the screen starts to flicker. It's like it's glitching a couple of seconds before it stops.. It goes on for about 5-10 seconds. It started to happen after i upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday (i got my XPS 13 yesterday). It's the i7 model with the infinity touch display.
I have checked that i have all the latest drivers. So is this software, or hardware? And what can i do to fix this?

I have been battling this problem like a few people here, I have a Dec-13 XPS 13 L321X with Intel HD graphics 3000. So far I have:-
All based on suggestions posted here.
Today re-reading/double checking stuff and I see the Intel(R) Management Engine Components Installer Driver Chipset_Driver_KFR45_WN32_11.0.0.1153_A00.EXE seems to have been updated by Dell? Version is still the same but release date/last update is today?
Installed it now I wait and see! Peter

I have had the exact problem since I upgraded to Windows 10 on Oct 11, 2015. My Windows build is 10240. Whenever I wake up my Dell XPS 13 from sleep and off mode, the screen flick. I thought my laptop was broken somehow. I played with the screes resolution by switching to other configuration and change it back to resolve the flickering problem. Once I do it, the screen will stay normal until the next time the laptop is put to sleep. It is very annoying! Is this something wrong with the Window 10 or the display driver? I looked at this thread and it did not show there is a definitive fix yet? Ravi, could you kindly give us an update? Will Microsoft update the Window 10 driver to resolve this issue? Does it happen to this Dell make / model, or it is a known problem for other make / model using the same chip-set as well? The good news seems to be the fact that our laptops are broken which is comforting to know. Awaiting your detail reply again. Many thanks.

PeterWBaker,
You should not have any more problems with flickering. As noted in a previous message the key is to ensure that the downloaded file is the correct size (I took several tries). The fact that so many have a problem downloading the file suggests to me that something is not quite right with Dell's server.

Yesterday I received the following message from my contact at Dell:
"As per system information, I see the latest version of drivers for Intel 520 card is 15.40.7.4279.
Request you to please click on the below link, that would help you download and install the driver software. Please keep me posted about system performance once it is done.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25274/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Production-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10
Once you open the link, please download the 3rd file with the following information.
File name: win64_15407.4279.exe
Version: 15.40.7.4279 (Latest)
Date: 09/01/2015
Size: 174.63 MB
Language: English
Operating Systems: Windows 7, 64-bit*, Windows 8.1, 64-bit*, Windows® 10, 64-bit
Thank you for your time and patience, it has been wonderful working with you."
I am having an issue with this because when I run the Dell driver scan it tells me I am up to date. And when I run the Intel driver utility it tells me that there are no new drivers for my system. (Btw my graphics card is a 5500 and is also covered by this 4279 driver.)
Am running Chipset 1153 and Graphics driver 4256 even though auto update is off it keeps re-installing 4256 when I downgrade to 4240. Must say my system has been stable now for over a week, so I leave it as is, until Dell comes with a formal solution.
(At this time it appears that they have no grasp of what's going on as different techs advise to try different things and seem to work solo rather than as a team).

I'm editing the post I made last night. The "fix" seemed to work after I downloaded yesterday but today I am trying to type this in the middle of the screen flickering. This is my second XPS13 with this issue and it needs corrected. I'd advise people NOT to purchase this model until this issue is resolved.

Thanks for the sharing of knowledge in this forum. Unfortunately, I checked my XPS. Since it is an older model, it uses the Intel HD Graphics 3000 (integrated video controller). After reading the release note from Intel, I extracted from the release note to below:
This document provides information about Intel’s Graphics Driver for:
- 6th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors, Intel® Core™ M, and related Intel® Pentium® Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 510, 515, 520, 530
- 5th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 5500, 5600, 6000, Intel® Iris™ Graphics 6100, Iris Pro Graphics 6200
and select Pentium®/ Celeron® Processors with Intel® HD Graphics Intel® Core™ M with Intel HD Graphics 5300
- 4th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 4200, 4400, 4600, 5000, Intel® Iris™ Graphics 5100 and Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 5200 and select Intel® Pentium®/Intel® Celeron® Processors with Intel® HD Graphics.
Hence, it doe snot seem to support my Dell XPS with the HD Graphics 3000 (integrated video controller)? Ravi (at Dell), could you check with Intel if it makes sense tor me to proceed? Many thanks.

@ kayak99
Did you check whether the old driver 4256 did not re-install?

HeikoMa, to help Dell to trouble shoot our problem, it is best to identify the configuration of your laptop. There are several variants of the Dell XPS 13 with different integrated video controller. Mine is an i5 with the Intel HD Graphic 3000. I published a post this morning (10-14-15) to let Ravi (at Dell) to know that the newly released Intel driver does not support the Intel HD Graphic 3000 series. I suggest you to do the same to help the forum and Ravi (at Dell) to help all of us. Does it make sense?

Find this very interesting!!!
I searched the internet using "Screen flicker problem recovering from sleep mode" and was surprised at the extent of the problem.
Different brands of computers as well as different operating systems have screen flickering issues.
Seems to be a problem that has been around for awhile and not just with the Dell XPS 13.
We still need a solution.
