XPS 15 9530 - Resolution settings

Hi Guys,

To all XPS 15 9530 owners, I am currently playing with the resolution settings and text / font size, and I would like to know your settings.

My current settings as follows:

Resolution: 3200 x 1800

Change the size of all items : 150% [Screen Resolution > Make text and other items larger or smaller]

I find it small, but changing to 200% fonts becomes big on other application .

I tried, 2048 x 1152 and it looks blurry ? or its just me ;)

Out of the box, do you know the resolution settings ? I wasn't able to check since I re-image everything with windows 8.1 Pro , as soon as I open the box.

I do hope you guys can share your settings and comments.

Hi wizzkid8,

Welcome to Dell community.

The XPS 15 uses the latest in display technology, with an IGZO panel in stunning QHD+ (3200 x 1800).The QHD+ panel has a resolution of 3200x1800 pixels, which is even higher than the resolution of the (at 15.6-inch slightly larger) display of other laptops. The true life resolution is good for 15.6" FHD (1920x1080)

What this means for the user is that even when multiple windows are placed next to each other, the contents are necessarily smaller, but still razor sharp. As long as the source material is high resolution, graphics, pictures, and videos are more enjoyable that way.

Updated the resolution settings to 3200 x 1800 and let me know if this helps you.

Hi Mohammed Sadiq,

Thanks for your input here.

I've set my resolution to 3200 x 1800 with scaling of 150%, which makes font somewhat readable but small. Other applications such as photoshop has small menus and tools, as well as other apps.

I made the resolution to 2048 x 1152 with scailing of 100% and everything looks okay but it made the metro apps bigger .

Do you know the default / out from the box resolution ? 3200 x 1800 and the scaling is ?

I would also like to get a feedback from end user what display settings they set ? :)

Thanks a again.

Hi wizzkid8,

Default/Out of Box: The high resolution display (3200 x 1800) is absolutely gorgeous.

The Dell XPS 15 runs a monstrous 3200 x 1800 native resolution. This all sounds fantastic until you actually try to use it. Windows 8.1 detects the resolution and applies font scaling automatically. These settings are shown below.

Let me know if you need more help and we'll be happy to check.

Similar to you, I reinstalled the OS, only I switched to Win7pro, so I think that at least font-wise, things are different. I use 1920X1080, with 100% display. The fonts looked fuzzy when I first changed the resolution, but I played with all the font settings, including all the windows settings (changed the defaults fonts to Segoe UI 9), registry stuff, and clear type settings, and now things look great.

Hi guys,

I changed my display resolution to 2048 x 1152, which solved my scaling issues and resolution on my external monitor (samsung) , however, changing to this resolution make the metro  and metro apps bigger, including the wifi settings. Is there a way to shrink the metro and metro apps but sticking to 2048 x 1152 resolution ?

Mahammed Sadiq-

I have a Dell XPS 15 9550 and i am having the exact same problems as wizzkid8 described.  What is the point of having this awesome screen if you cant use it.  What is the best solution this year?  Thanks

I would love a solution to this issue...kills productivity if you can't use programs due to the small menu issue.

I'm having the same issues on the XPS 15 9550.

I've no idea what to set the resolution or scaling to. Some applications look ok and then I install some of my required software and it looks terrible, really small text and buttons..

Did you ever come up with a solution?

Nope.. they didn't.  I did find a fix that we the end user can use for individual programs that have scaling issues. Works like a charm!!

Fixed mine using the 'preferexternalmanifest' - I posted a reply just above with a link. Here is my photoshop after the change.. The menu is back to 'normal' size!
