XPS 15 9530 battery issue?

My XPS 15 9530 shuts off before it completes boot up, with or without charger attached. The laptop is about 4 years old. Does that sound like a bad battery? If I leave the charger attached for a long time, like 24-36 hours, the laptop will stay on longer but still not long enough to complete boot up. Thoughts? Thanks.

Take the battery out of the system -- or disconnect it.  If that solves the problem, you've found the culprit.  If not, it's more likely a bad mainboard.

Thanks very much! I took the battery out and the laptop runs fine on the charger alone. One more question please. Is it ok to run off the charger only until I get a new battery?  Thank you again!

I take it all back. It just powered off by itself. Lasted about five minutes. Is there a way I can check the main board or does that take special equipment?
