XPS 15-9550, compatible with U3415W/U3417W monitors?
Hey! I've been looking for a monitor for my work station and I feel like U3415W or U3417W would be great monitor for me. The thing that made me question it was that it said that the monitors is not compatible with any XPS, just Latitude and Precision. So my question is whether the monitors works good with my XPS 5-9550 laptop?

It will work. The XPS 15-9550 and the Precision 5510 share the same hardware.
XPS 15-9550 USB Type-C out port --> USB Type-C to DP cable --> U3415W/U3417W DP in port
XPS 15-9550 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> U3415W/U3417W HDMI in port

To expand on that answer, if you use a Type-C adapter, make sure it ONLY provides DisplayPort out so that all of the USB-C port’s high speed lines are being used for display. If you use an adapter that includes things like another USB port, Ethernet, etc., the adapter will be using only half the USB-C port’s lanes for display and the other half for USB 3.1 data, and then that display probably won’t work at its native resolution. If you want other connectivity, you’d have to get something like a Thunderbolt dock, which allows much more bandwidth to be carried. If you get the Dell TB16, get it with the 240W adapter to use with that system.

The cable I linked to should work, correct? It is a straight USB-C to DisplayPort cable.

Thanks for the answers! Does it matter if you connect your monitor to the hdmi or the usb-c input? Was wondering if I should get a dock, but I have no use for more connectivity at the moment. The only upside that I (think) I'll get is less trouble connecting everything each time(major part is the charging). Is it any other vital thing Im missing? Like screen response and such. Thanks again

@Dell-Chris yes that cable should work. Just giving more background.
@Stefan, the built-in HDMI output is HDMI 1.4, which means your max is 1440p @ 60 Hz Or 4K @ 30 Hz. The USB-C output would do 4K @ 60 Hz with an adapter that provides either DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 2.0. You could also get a Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort adapter, which would allow dual 4K @ 60 Hz, as long as your system had new enough Thunderbolt firmware to run that adapter. I think you need NVM18 or better.
