XPS 15z Ram Limitation
Why am I limited to 8gb of Ram? I'd like to purchase two 8gb sticks to have 16gb of ram. I plan on running several virtualized environments off of this laptop and will be using all 16gb of ram. Is this possible?

According to my Dell XPS 15Z - my BIOS revision is A02. It does exist. Everyone is aware that the XPS 15 and the XPS 15Z are different.
I am running an XPS 15Z with 16GB of RAM. Not much else to say.

Not according to Dell and Crucial - the system is limited to 4G soDIMMs, so that means 8 total (there are only two memory sockets).

Have you already upgraded to a faster SSD which can improve temporary storage performance?
May also improve RAM performance by utilizing ready boost on fast compatible USB flash drive or flash memory card.
I like to run the CPU meter gadget to monitor RAM and CPU; the HDD is the most frequent bottle neck in my system.
I haven't tried intensive video editing recently nor several virtual environments.
I did run photo editing through XP mode in windows virtual PC.

I too do use the 15z for my virtualised vmware environment - I'm considering going to SSD as the drive pages like crazy.
I hope the future BIOS upgrades can support 8GB DIMMS

Looks like a lot of us are doing the same thing - I do lots of virtualization testing with my XPS 15Z.
I can confirm that this laptop supports 16GB of RAM. Using it right now with that amount of memory. I'm using Micron Crucial 8GBx2 DIMMS, DDR-3 PC3-10600.

I don't know about an 8GB + 4GB config. The Micron memory works like a champ, though. I'm running 4 open VM's for a project which used to choke my laptop out big time. Now, it's running smooth as silk, using 12GB with 4 to spare.
BIOS version is A02.

I have tried 8gb+4gd also 8gb+4gb on my xps 15 and both work using the latest bios . Hope this helps :emotion-5:

The 16gb kit i used was corsair valueselect memory no CMSO16GX3M2A1333C9 . Hope this helps

The XPS 15 and XPS 15z are different laptops. The guy who said he has had success with 16gb of ram said he is using BIOS version A02 which does not exist for the Dell 15z.
It would be nice if the 15z supported more than 8gb of ram but I have my doubts.

The only difference between them is the price and one feature if you really pay attention, and I mean the timing or the NON ECC processing and the first one on amazon is 9-9-9-24 timing and the second one is 9-9-9-25 timing.
Yea and I already have 8Gb of RAM. This is the maximum according to www.dell.com
The dell website doesn't really specify, that's why I am looking for Help.
