XPS 17 (L702X) Coming out of Hibernation or Sleep, screen stays dark.

I googled around and didn't find many similar incidents.  My XPS 17 (L702X) has recently developed a problem that is driving me batty.  About 60% of the time when it wakes up from hibernation or sleep, the computer comes on, but the screen doesn't.  I confirmed video from the HDMI port was working, but the LCD stays dark.  I tried setting the programmable softkey to the command that toggles your screen on and off, but when the laptop has dark screen problem that key doesn't do anything.

The only way I can get the screen to come back on, is to do a hard reboot (pushing power until it goes off, then pushing power again).  The screen comes on 100% of the time when I do this.  Any ideas?
