XPS 9550: Latest Thunderbolt firmware upgrade destroys HDMI port

Hello,

Dell just release a new Thunderbolt firmware 4.26.03.001 ,A07

I installed it, and it seems to have destroyed my external HDMI port.

I tested it with different monitors and cables.

On some monitors the colors are inverted (white goes black). Some monitors don't display anything.

I hope the upgrade caused no hardware defect to the HDMI port.

Unfortunately I cannot find the old Thunderbolt firmware to got back.

Regards

Oliver

You said you tried to update the Thunderbolt driver, but based on the error message and version number, it sounds like you tried to update the firmware.  in order to update Thunderbolt firmware, you have to have both the latest system BIOS and the latest Thunderbolt driver/software installed first.

@timblaktu: yes, confirmed. Works on TB15, which is pretty similar.

Works on DA200 port replicator too... just not the internal HDMI port... which is cooked

I have the same exact problem, after Thunderbolt FW Upgrade HDMI gone. Tried with two different monitors.

Also you can't downgrade the Thunderbolt FW

I could roll back the firmware from NVM26 to NVM21 on my XPS 9560 and the HDMI port is working again.

Thank you very much!

Will this work for a XPS 9560? If so can we just download it from the 9550 page and install it.

Can't get it to roll back. It won't complete installation and just says things are up to date leaving the newer broken firmware. Any ideas?

Had the same issue after updating the Thunderbolt firmware, downgrading indeed solves the issue. Thanks a lot!!

Thanks Colin; Just a thought. Might have been nice to put the link in the comment so we can click it ^_^

Are we safe to assume that an updated firmware will be posted here (or an FYI that its available)?

Cheers!
