XPS Reboot Problem

When I switch on the power button then I can I see only @Microsoft Corporoation in the screen and arrow moving from left to right

and system does not start/boot.

But when I press the button(CD/DVD eject button) then it starts rebooting and starts the system.

What is the exact problem?

I am using 32bit Windows Vista Home Premium.

Re: XPS Reboot Problem

Hello Shankar,

To isolate the issue if it is a hardware or a software issue, I would suggest a couple of steps which might be helpful.

1. Run a Hardware Diagnostics.
Refer the following link, to run the hardware diagnostics: http://dell.to/OUGnqT

2. Doing a BIOS default can also be tried.
-- Restart the computer.
-- Keep tapping F2 on the Dell Logo screen.
-- It takes to the BIOS.
-- Press F9 then Press Enter.
-- Once prompted to save and exit, Press F10 then Press Enter.
-- The computer Restarts.
Check the functionality and write back to us with results, I'd be glad to assist further.

Awaiting your response!

Thanks & Regards

Re: XPS Reboot Problem

Thanks for your response.

1. Hardware Diagnostics run shows all tests Pass in Blue Screen.

2.BIOS Test: I can see BIOS version A15(12/25/2008)

Even if I press any audio volume key then it helps in rebooting the system.

This problem starts 2 days back whem my mouse pointer frezed and system got hanged.

After then I restarted the system and could not able to reboot it.

And now somehow I can reboot the system by pressing these keys.

Also touchpad is not working.

Shankar

Re: XPS Reboot Problem

Hi Allen,

Even in safe mode it is doing the same thing.

Computer will not reboot unless I press the button(CD/DVD eject button) or even if I press audio volume button then it helps in rebooting.

Same thing happens while shutdown

Re: XPS Reboot Problem

Hi,

I would suggest updating the BIOS to the latest version. Refer the following link to update the latest version of BIOS:  http://dell.to/T425rE

To update few things to ensure before updating the Bios is, the Ac Adapter should be plugged in and the battery should have minimum of 10% charge. No other peripherals should be connected to the computer. Please ensure that the Bios update should not be interrupted.

Please write back if you have any further questions.
