XPS17 Nvidia driver update caused distorted audio through HDMI Nvidia HD audio output
I have an XPS17 with the Nvidia GT 555 dedicated GPU. Dell recently put up a recommended driver update for the me in the support site for the GT555. Since the update the audio coming out of the HDMI output is horribly distorted (it sounds like the signal is way too hot). I've tried uninstalling the Nvidia HD audio devices from Device Manager and letting Windows reinstall the drivers, to no avail. The only thing I've been able to do to mitigate the issue is to turn the volume on the Nvidia device way down and compensate by turning up the volume on my receiver.
Are there any recommended fixes for this type of issue?

When you "update" a driver and it does not work correctly, go to Device Manager and right click on it and select "roll back driver" to re-install the previous driver. I don't know if you can still do that since you uninstalled the new driver.
If you cannot now roll back to the older driver you can download and install it. To find an older version go to a driver download page (I don't know exactly which driver you have so can't provide a link to it but here is an example of a driver page with Other Versions) and look for "Other Versions" and try to find the old one.
Note that before installing an older version of a driver you might have to uninstall the newer one and select the option to delete the driver files or else Windows might just keep reinstalling the newer driver.
My own practice is to never update a device driver unless there is a known issue with it that is addressed by the update.

Just looked at your thread from last December and see that you know about rolling back and deleting driver files, so ignore that part of my post,

Update: For some reason there was no save point to roll back to before I updated the driver. I went to Nvidia's driver update site which had a far more recent (and all around better) updated driver package that I was able to successfully install. Part of the issue also turned out to be in a setting in my monitor (which the audio is passing through) that had gotten changed.
