XT3 mSATA in WWAN slot

Hello everyone,

Has anybody successfully installed an mSATA drive in the WWAN slot of a Latitude XT3? Is this even possible?

Thanks,

Yostin

RE: XT3 mSATA in WWAN slot

mSATA requires a different type of electrical connection - which the socket isn't designed for, so it will not work.

RE: XT3 mSATA in WWAN slot

Is that just the WWAN socket on the XT3 or any WWAN socket?

Unless the socket is labeled for mSATA, that's always the case - mSATA specs are different from miniPCIe specs.

the dell XT3 is listed as a compatible laptop for msata.  I've read reports of success with this model.  I have ordered a crucial m550.  when it arrives, I plan to image my mx100 and use it as a boot drive.  i'll report back when i'm up and running.

RE: XT3 mSATA in WWAN slot

I've tested 3 different half height mSATA drives in the labeled SSD slot in the XT3 as well as testing a couple of them and a regular full height mSATA drive in the WWAN port with no luck on getting any recognized during Windows setup or Linux setup.

These may work in Windows as "cache" style drives, but they don't work for my purposes which is an additional boot drive. I may test them again as caches just to see if they work, but for the moment I'd prefer to use them elsewhere since only 1 2.5" slot doesn't work out very well for me even if I put a 1TB SSD in there.
