since the last round of updates my audio has stopped working, have been trawling the internet for solutions but nothing has worked... please help

You did not include the full model name of your laptop in your post, nor which version of Windows you have, so go to the Some Recent Issues FAQ, and scroll down to the XPS section, and see if your model and issue are listed there.
thanks for getting back to me, I have solved the issue, I de activated windows driver update and updated the realtec driver!
