computer keep shutting off

i have a dell inspirion 6000 laptop and it keeps shutting down, i know my battery is bad does not hold a charge anymore, so i use the AC adaptor, i notice where the 3 lights that are on the bottom right hand corner of monitor are no longer a greenish yellow color the last two lights flash a orange color is that telling me something, could that be the reason computer keeps shutting off.
