ive stripped 1525 now and taken motherboard out i see on the net, replacements are about 60 dollars for used units. 100's for new. i also noticed recon units ? firstly, what is the cause of these boards giving up the ghost. if they repairible where does the problem lay on the board? is it or can a layman repair them? taking the price, converting into south african rands becomes expensive. dallascowboy, thanks, tried with all pieces out and no beeps only fan running, so guess its the motherboard

I am not sure what causes them to fail. However there are service manuals on Dells support page for their laptop computers that can aide you in assembly. Just enter your service tag on the Support page and click on the manuals tab.

Also know that the 1525 comes with two different motherboards,. one with a ATI video card and one with an Intel video card.
