Check your keyboard settings in Regional/Language settings in control panel. Make sure the setting is correct for your country. US keyboards do not have that choice.

You should post your model  computer, OS and your country for more help.

Normally you need to hold the shift key to access symbols on the numeric keys. What is typed when you press the € key ?

Do you have more than two numbers/symbols on the "5" key.

The Euro symbol  can be generated by using 0128 using the numeric keypad. With a laptop without a keypad, you need to use the embedded keypad.

Thanks Mary.  My machine is an Inspiron 1545 laptop running Windows 7.  I live in South Africa.

I have checked the language settings, th esystem is set for a US keyboard configuration.  If I change this to UK all sorts of things change or don't work.  It has to be US Keyboard.
