function (fn) key problem on Inspiron 1501

The FN 2 key on the keyboard apears to be permamently 'on' ie J comes out as 1, M as 0 etc.  If I press the Fn key, the normal value appears.  I have to hold down the Fn key all the time to type a note like this. The laptop is about 1 month old.

Is there a setting to correct this or do I have a keyboard problem?

Turn off the " Num Lk " key ( Between the "Prnt Scrn" and "Pause" keys ). Trust me it works, I just checked it on my 1501.

Hello:

I accessed 'pcgeek 11's' solution to unlocking the "FN" key onthe Dell Inspiron 1501 and it worked great (hitting the Num LK key).  But, another issue exists in that there seems to be no way to use a USB number key pad unless the "Num Lk" is activated (on) - and when the Num Lk key is activated - we're back to the "FN" Key making it difficult to use the regular keyboard in normal mode.  Do you have any ideas on a fix for this?

thanks,

There is no fix. That is the way it works.
