Hi, I having the exact problem with my dell inspiron. Continuous set 5 loud beeps at start up and then lower but continuous afterwards. Please how did you resolve your problem?
Unplug the system, remove the battery and locate the reserve/CMOS battery . This requires removing the palmrest assembly:
You'll need to replace the CR-2032 lithium button cell battery (these are available for as little as under $1 from Amazon, among others).
If it's a series of single beeps, remove the battery, unplug the system and hold the power button for 30 sec. Remove the base cover and the memory modules and reinstall them.
Try powering up again - if you still get a single beep that repeats, the mainboard is bad. If you need further assistance, we'll need to know the exact system model (i.e., Inspiron 5521, N5110, etc.).
Ok, I removed the bottom panel and the memory modules, put everything back, hit the power button, still have the one beeps. Thanks for your help!
Rather than replace the CMOS battery, which is very difficult on my Inspiron 15z 5523 as you basically have to take the whole laptop apart, is there a way to permanently switch off the beeps?
I've tried a couple of suggested fixes, like changing the Default Beep in Control Panel Sounds to 'None', but these don't work.
There is no way other than to replace the battery (and if replacing the battery doesn't solve the problem, it means it's the clock chip that's bad -- which will require a replacement mainboard).
