java installation for windows 8.

i bought a inspirion 15, with windows 8. and i have a question regarding installing the latest version of java. it tells me to only install in desktop mode, which i tried. but it still came up as a non succesfull installation. it might have something to do with my other problem, which is a pop up window who keeps coming back saying my RUN.dll file can't be found or missing.

can anyone please help me out :)

much appreciated, Alex

What antivirus program are you running?  Many of these - McAfee, Norton, Kaspersky, etc. - will block Java and need to be temporarily disabled to do the install.

Using the Windows Offline installer to install Java is the best method since installing Java using the Online installer can cause the installation to fail or have an error.

Java Downloads for All Operating Systems:
http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Get the recommended Java Version 7 Update 10 named jre-7u10-windows-i586.exe.

Check to see if your version of Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.

If you have a 64-bit version of Windows you need to download the 64-bit Offline or Manual installation file named jre-7u10-windows-x64.exe from this web site:

Java SE Runtime Environment 7 Downloads:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/j...

The latest version of Java is always the recommended version as it contains feature updates, vulnerability fixes and performance improvements to previous versions. You can confirm that you have the latest version by visiting the Java Verification page.
