keyboard freezes after hibernation

Inspiron 6400/Vista Home Premium

I have the laptop to hibernate when I close the lid.  When I open the lid and resume working I find that the keyboard will not work and have to restart the computer.

Can anyone help please.

Did it go into hibernation or did it get stuck in the process? Usually the screen / laptop is hot when it did.

Assuming it's coming back from hibernation, i'd do the following in your shoes.

Backup any critical data, if not backup-ed already

Disable hibernation in power options.

Defrag the disk first, then defrag the swapfile after.

Again defrag the disk and again the defrag the swapfile

Case bad disk spots are encountered - stop immediately and start migrating to a new disk.

If all defragged ok, turn on hibernation - try if that worked.

It came out of hibernation O.K. except for the keyboard problem.

Defragged the lot, to no effect.

I have set it to 'sleep' when I close the lid and have no problem when I resume.

Thanks for the the advice but I think I'll leave it at that.
