m1530 Hard Drive click noise

I just received my new XPS m1530.  I've searched the forums, and I have not been able to find a solution to this "problem".

I have the 250G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive.  In my control panel the drive is listed as a Samsung HM251JJ.  Now, the laptop makes a very audible click which comes from the lower-left portion of the laptop.  I'm assuming that this is the hard drive.  There does not seem to be any other sounds associated with the click.  The drive also seems to be emitting more heat than the rest of the laptop.

My question is this, is the click a sign of a faulty drive?  Is it fixable?

Thank you

Hello all,

I too bought the same model xps 1530 10 days before i am also struggling with same problem hard drive click noise continuously coming up. I can't say whether it emits more heat but i can say its more than the normal heat emission.

I hope some one could help to solve this solution,, Any specialist please. Waiting for reply.

The clicking is so much continuous as random.  It seems to come and go.  Sometimes it will be 5 minutes between clicks, other times an hour can go by without a click.

I had the same problem with my Samsung 320 Gig 5400 ARPM drive.

It loudly clicked regulary every 20 seconds and ran pretty warm.

I repalced it with a Segate 250 Gig 7200 RPm drive which runs significantly cooler

and is practically silent.  :)

It could be a sign that the hard drive is failing, but hard drives on their way out normally click insistently?

I'd advise keeping regular backups of all your important data/files, nonetheless!

There is a correction to this issue for the Samsung HM500LI 2.5 5400 S2 HDD (check all M1530 updates). Any chances to get an firmware update for our HM251JJ???

Well, if they got the problem corrected for that drive it means that they know what the problem is and how to fix it. We shold ask Dell for a solution.

I have my HM251JJ for 1 year now. Although the frequency of the click has diminished, it is still present.. and it sacares me a lot!
