nVidia 8600M GT GPU and Inspiron 1520 (video card failure)
My video card has been failing completely when playing games and giving other troubles when using the laptop (without gaming). Anyone having similar problems? I have the latest system BIOS and GPU drivers.

Start by running the Dell diagnostics on the video card - F12 at powerup.

this is caused by GPU defect of NV G84/G86 series video cards, can't be fixed. NV and DELL has admitted this but not recalling the defected laptops. they are releasing BIOS, hoping the laptops can survive the warrantee year and then dang!
I really hope they can come out with a solution such as replacing the G84/G86 with G9X.... but god knows.

i did get some Blue screen deadths starting a couple of months ago.. but i thought they would be fixed by some vista update or driver update.. and now i'm getting all sorts of video problems and my laptop is just outta warranty.. :( I hope Dell adds Inspiron 1520 to its list of GPU affected laptops and provides additional support for since they sold laptops with defective components to their customers !!!

Since the Inspiron 1520 is not listed as an affected model, there is nothing at this time to support it came with defective components.
If, however, data does eventually show that they are also defective, I agree, Dell should cover it.
