nVidia Geforce GT 650M NOT DETECTED on Inspiron 17R SE 7720 after BIOS A11 Update

Hi everyone,

A week ago I did some updating on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 including Bios update to the A11 version. Unfortunately after this update I realized that the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card was gone from my system.

I read other posts and people that have come across this issue suggested that re-installing the bios would fix the problem, however in my case it did not.

Also I have installed the newly released BIOS A12 and A13 versions but non of these have fixed this issue.

Also re-installing windows does not either fix this as suggested by others in other posts.

I have also run the computer diagnostics from the bios and the card does not show up there either, is like if the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card was not installed on the system.

Lastly I have run a version of Ubuntu on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and run a system check and neither the card is detected, just the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is detected on windows or linux.

Please someone from dell help us fix this issue, as it is definitely a BIOS PROBLEM.

If you are one of the unlucky ones like me that saw disappeared the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card from your system, please share your experience with me.

Thanks for your responses.

Well, that picture may be helpful to the Dell techs, but I'm afraid that it doesn't apply to my particular computer. It's less than 2 months old and doesn't have a trace of dust in it. I've seen its motherboard replaced twice now and can verify this...

I just got a phone call from the technician who is managing my case, and he said that BIOS A16 is being sent to me to test out! I did absolutely confirm that it's A16 and not A15. I don't have it yet, but I hope it comes via email soon... I'll update again once I know more.

While I'd like to, I'm afraid that I never got the file... I'm awaiting a follow-up phone call today to find out why not.

I just got off the phone with my technician, and he sent me the BIOS! My system has been flashed, and I am going to start stress testing the <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> out of it to see if the GT650M will remain recognized. I don't want to share the file yet until I am certain that this is going to work. No sense in damaging everybody else's machine further. My tech said he'd call back in about a week, so I've got plenty of opportunities to run this machine through the mill now. I'm cautiously optimistic...

I have been using my inspiron SE for over 5-7 months without a decent graphics card if A16 made your laptop recognize your nvidia card could I have a copy please...

p.s. thank and congratz on obtaining the "new" bios which was promised by dell months ago

Just so y'all know I'm not making this up. Fingers are still crossed that this is going to solve everybody's problem.

Awesome Axelay

I think the people who already have it missing and can't get warranty wouldnt really appreciate you uploading it as soon as you can to see if it makes theirs re-appear.

It's only taken them, what? 6 months! to make this bios! at least it finally arrived though. In the Zip package did it come with a readme text file or any kind of documentation on fixes we could have please ?
