Generally this error message will mean that the harddrive has a loose or poor connection.
Try this: completely power down the system, remove the battery, remove the ac power, remove the harddrive; then reinstall the harddrive, connect the ac power and then try powering up your system.
The User's Guide will be able to help you on removing the harddrive properly.
Heh, another 'update'... Sorry for so many consecutive posts...
I happened to find my XP reinstallation discs, and ran those. I chose to try and restore my current operating system, and that worked. I'm not sure what was wrong, but for now, at least, my laptop is once more working.

OK. Heh, I had intended for there to be a message, but I accidentally hit the wrong button and it posted blank.
I tried to remake the post, but it wouldn't load the page for some reason.
Anyway, I'll try that out and see what happens. Couldn't possibly hurt, I would think...
