slow cd ripping on tunes and other programs - on studio 1749 i3 processor

I am haveing a real hard time figureing out why my dvd/cd drive is so slow.  I can only get the cd slot to rip cd's in itunes at about 4 - 5x speed.  I tried to uninstall the cd drive and then reinstalled it, that did not work.  I also updated the drive bios but that did nothing either.  I also have a i3 processor and windows 7 on the computer

anybody else have the same problem out there.  

anybody have a solution for me.
