Re: touchpad scroll problem

To enable scroll, right click on the touchpad icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen and select properties. This should open the touchpad control panel. There will be several tabs I forget the particular one but one will have the selections to enable you to scroll. If you have problems make another post and I will give fuller details.

Re: touchpad scroll problem

I went to the Pointing device properties, but did not find any option on whether to enable scrolling.  I did have a Wheel tab, but it only display option of scrolling, not to enable it.  It's a Synaptics touchpad.

Re: touchpad scroll problem

williamjose,

It sounds like you have a different driver installed.  The Synaptics driver does not have a wheel tab (be kind of silly, since the Touchpad does not have a wheel).  Not all external mouse drivers are compatible with the Synaptics driver.

Please download the correct Touchpad driver from our website and install it.  At that point, you should have the correct tabs and options to enable scrolling for the Touchpad.

Re: touchpad scroll problem

Dell still has no vista drivers for the touchpad

That is the dialog box you should have if you are using synaptics. Select the Gestures tab where you will find the buttons to activate scroll. The picture you posted indicates that you are using the Windows driver which may not give you all the touchpad functionality. Download the synaptics driver as Rollie has advised.

Re: touchpad scroll problem

williamjose,

Dell supplies drivers only for factory installed Operating Systems, so there will be no Vista drivers for your Inspiron 6000.  You can download Vista drivers directly from Synaptics.

Re: touchpad scroll problem

I found a Dell Vista Driver for the touchpad and installed it getting this new properties box:

Synaptics only has generic drivers, and it clearly specifies there may be a loss of advanced features.  Still no scrolling, and yet the Synaptics advancd features appear in the computer processes.

Re: touchpad scroll problem

Hi,
I've had the Inspiron 6000 before, and boy, did it have so many touch pad problems from the moment I got it. It was brand new, but within just a day or so, the scroll feature just began to chug along, as opposed to scroll smoothly and quickly. A friend of mine got a different model laptop from Dell at the same time that I got the 6000. his touch pad was of a different brand, and did not change in its behavior at all, and to this day, it's still working just like it did when he first got it.

What I later discovered was that the particular brand being used for this model was not good to begin with, and easily damaged, even under normal use. Even with subsequent replacements, the same thing happened, and so in the end, I just had to part ways with the system all together.

Re: touchpad scroll problem

Hi I reinstalled XP Home Edition, the one that came originally, reinstalled the driver from the resource CD and still no scroll.  I have searched the entire dell website searching for other drivers and then installed them having the same results.  You told me only XP drivers were available and I thought this would solve the problem but it did not,  Can you help me?

PS I have searched also for the Dell Media Experience which my laptop originally had, and read it was supposed to be on the Dell Resource CD, and it is not.  Is it because of a mistake or because I can go somewhere and download it.
