When I turn on the power, The fan starts then stops. Then the light with lock and letter A flashes and nothing.. help??
This computer was given to me to use as I teach english in the back country of Mexico.. I would like to use it now that I have it..

nothing on the screen. the model is vostro 1000

there is nothing on the screen at all. only the flashing letter A.

Hi romaniatom ,
Welcome to the Community.
Sorry to hear that you are facing issues with the Vostro system. This is a typical no post scenario . If the first two lights are flashing and the third light is on. It indicates an error with the video card.

Check whether the system is under warranty from the link below as it seems that the system would need a motherboard or video card replacement.

no two lights. only the letter A and that is all..

Hello romaniatom,
If the Letter A Flashes it does not clearly indicate any parts in the system which has been failed.
Is is possible to connect an External Monitor and check if you are able to see any Video?
If you have a monitor then connect it and then press Fn + F8 and you can see the Video on the external monitor.

this did not happen. when i turn on the laptop, it automatically shuts the fan off after about three seconds and the light flashes.
I need this system for teaching . HELP !!!
