Dell Alienware 14 USB 3.0 Problem

I realize this is the wrong portion of the forum, but I couldn't find the software and drivers section.

Here goes. I have a Dell Alienware 14 (Mid 2013) model laptop. I have recently come into possession of a 3TB Seagate external drive with a USB 3.0 connection. The issue I'm having is that the drive randomly disconnects and reconnects during the transfer of files from the computer to the Drive. I disabled USB selective suspend under the power options - no dice. I tried installing the eXtensible Host Driver and Intel Lynx Point HM87 Drivers (thought maybe they weren't installed for some reason?) - Still no. Does anyone know how to get this to work? I really don't want to keep trying to move files just to have the device disconnect. I'm sure this is really bad for the drive...
